Make It Snappy Challenge by Scrapping With Liz

On Saturday, I participated in my first MIS Challenge.  This challenge entailed using a Scrapping With Liz template with a set of directions and making a layout within 75 minutes.  There is an opportunity to do it with a twist if you signed in early.  The participation prize is a free template.

I helped myself out by pre-selecting 3 photos, a Liz template and a kit I felt supported my photos.  I figured I could pare the photos down to 2, or 1 if the challenge called for less than 3 photos and the template could easily be adapted to fewer photos, too.  This proved to be a BIG help as I was done with the challenge in less than 40 minutes.

I selected a kit by Etc by Danyale since I'm required to do one challenge a month with a kit of hers (EASY to do, BTW) and it had some orange and elements that would go with a boy page.

Kim Jensen made a new kit of shaker flairs and combined its release with some older kits that coordinate with them.  I used some of the flairs but not a filled one.  I loved the orange woodgrain paper and since orange is Ewan's favorite color I had to use his photos.  The photo came from Rachel's Facebook photo album.

Last, but not least, is a updated re-release from Gina Miller.  She reworked a collab with another designer from a different store and added a set of coordinated journaling cards.  The colors and title of the journaling card in my layout set the theme and I found a photo of me preparing for school a couple of years ago.  Gina rarely makes alphas, so the jc is the title of the layout.

Art Journaling Challenge at The Lilypad

The challenge was a hard one -- create a digital shadowbox with items you feel like you could reach out and touch.  I seen pages like this and have wanted to try it.  I looked on Youtube but there wasn't anything that really explained how to do it.  I made my own pieces for masks, used an inner drop shadow on the base cityscape paper and used the brush tool and the dodge tool to create the illusion of depth.  It was tricky but I had the best time.
