Let it snow, let it snow . . .

We woke up to another day of white stuff. It is not enough to shut down school, but most of the student population was tardy this morning. It is supposed to rain this afternoon making all of it disappear. The Mini did a good job of getting around because it wasn't DEEP.

I got my report cards done early this quarter -- praise God. I'm going to have three conferences and I plan to recommend that one family think about retention. I'm going to press for testing for another family. The third family I'm going to lobby for more parental involvement between two parents that are divorcing. Hopefully, all the families will be receptive to my messages. Teaching is always challenging!!

Mini mine...

We picked Mini up last night and the bill came in at a whopping $860. The service did turn out to be very extensive. Dad felt it was a good value afterall. The price was just such a shock when not expecting it. The next service should come in 2 1/2 to 3 years from now and it will be less than $300. For that reason, Dad decided that the money we spend on maintenence does not outweigh the cost getting a new car would incur. So.....I guess Mini is safe for a while longer. She is my car for now. ...she is fun to drive!

Oh, Mini...

I dropped my Mini Cooper off at the dealer for its 25,000 mile "check up". It the scheduled maintenence for this time in its life. I also needed to flush a bunch of stuff and refill stuff. It all seemed so routine until the person totaled up the cost -- $900! It took my breath away!! Nearly $1000 for a car that isn't even broken or running poorly. This is just not practical. We have decided that as much as we love Mini, she has got to go. There is no way that we will beable to afford this kind of maintenence bill when we are retired. Plus the big snow revealed to us that we personally own two vehicles that are pretty much useless in snowy weather. As old people (when we are very retired) that will not stand us in good stead. So we are going to talk to Chris about advertising our car on Craig's List and will be checking out our options for a new, more practical car.
A sad day, but not as hard as I thought it would be, to contemplate letting Mini go.

Sleep, sleep wonderful sleep!

Last night I went to sleep at 9:00 pm. I haven't slept very well for the last three nights. I suppose some of it is from school responsibility, maybe eating chocolate late at night (caffine) and worry over the backpack/water bottle belt situation. BUT last night I slept like a baby. It was hard to get up. I'll need a couple more long nights to get totally caught up. I'm going to have to find a way to load pictures onto my school computer so I can post pictures as it seems I do my posting during the Kindergarten rest time. Have a great day!

Snow

Here we go again! I dropped into school last night to take down the Christmas decorations and get a jump on school for Monday morning, when lo and behold it began to SNOW again. By 6 o'clock pm it was really coming down hard and building up. I slipped and slid all the way home in the little truck. I was nearly a nervous wreck by the time I reached home. This morning, the ground was still covered but the street were slushy. Most districts called for a late start, but thankfully our district went for the full day and it turned out to be just fine.

Flip Flap was a BIG hit with the kids. Whenever, it moves vigorously someone generally announces, "Look, Flip Flop is happy!" It's a real hoot. Thanks Alexis.

Flu

Well, what is a holiday without the flu? In order to do it up right, we came down with a doozy of a bout. Alexis and Greg got over it in a day or so, but Brian and I took a good three days to recover. That's what we get for being old. We looked so haggered and horrible, I didn't take any pictures of it, so I'll post another of Ewan!
Luckily this little cowboy and his mom did not get sick. Yeehaw!
P.S. See Alexis, I did post again....
