MOC Day 30 - One Word Challenge

The challenge was really a one phrase challenge.  We were to use the phrase "today was awesome" somewhere, somehow on the layout.  I ended up using it in the journaling.  I was only going to write a little bit on some stitched line, but that just wasn't satisfying.  I decided to really put all my thoughts and plans down instead.  Because the photo was so large, I had a little trouble coming up with the elements to embellish with.   I thought fewer was the way to go.  I was tempted to put the phrase on top of the street in the photo, but opted to leave the photo clean.

MOC 29 - Big Title Challenge

I had this layout in the hopper just waiting for the right challenge to post it in.  The photo/title was much smaller originally, but I increased the side due to the challenge.  I saw the technique on Pinterest in a graphics board.  I was just dying to try it out.  It took two tried to get the lettering over the black/white side of the photo just right.  If you look hard you will see the rest of the photo in the letters.  Probably not the most optimum photo for the technique, but I had to go with what I had and wouldn't mind the whole world seeing.

Monthly Mixed Media January Challenge #1

The one word I selected to use in my layout was Travel (other choices were Time or Still).  I have had the romantic idea of going to Paris, but am really just to lazy to travel (as well as too cheap).

I was attracted to the dark woodgrain paper and the postcard.  I used a multi-colored paint blotch as the mask.  I think it turned out better than I hoped.  I kept the elements simple.  I had to clone out a word label from the center of the butterfly.  I added another banner piece to the original.

Leviticus 16 - The Day of Atonement

I am a week behind with this layout about my BSF lesson.  I just bought the pieces from Jacque Larsen that helped finish it off.  I'm loving her felt and watercolored pieces for my Bible AJ.

I focused on 2 of the sacrifices taught in the lesson which happen on the Day of Atonement.

MOC Day 28 - Year in Review Challenge

I don't do this kind of layout normally so it was hard to come up with just the right photos.  I used a template and just grabbed a bunch of photos.  They do go somewhat in chronological order.  For the challenge I had to have at least one line of journaling and the word 2014 in numerals or words.  I could have picked a highlight of the year or a summary.  I went for a smattering (I guess that's a summary).

I have to admit, I am not crazy about the layout.  Photos are too small for my liking and the elements didn't seem to work as well as I wanted.  But it's done and I'm getting tired tonight.

I'm posting this as large as possible so the photos are more visible.

First Slow Scrap at TLP

I finally connected with one of the "speed" scraps.  It is a slow scrap.  You have 24 hours to complete it.  The recipe was a great one.  I was able to scrap a series of photos of Vivi playing Dr. Pol.
So much fun!

MOC Day 27 - Sketch Challenge

Here is the sketch which the challenge is based on  We were to use something from it to create our layout.  I chose the filmstrip, placement of the titles and the paper strips.

I put together the filmstrip, wordart and elements with different paper and paint drips yesterday. After sleeping on it overnight, I decided to go with a cleaner design.  The title also came to me as I drifted off to sleep.  I like this layout much better.

MOC Day 25 - Double Page Layout Challenge

This one was tough.  I haven't done a two page layout in PSE since my Jessica Sprague class days.  I had to go back to the PDFs to find out how to cut it into two pages.  I decided to use some of the recent photos of Walter and Buddy.  I've taken so many and haven't scrapped them yet.  I like how it turned out.

MOC 24 - Art Journaling Challenge

This challenge was right up my alley as I've been doing a LOT of art journaling lately.  I was feeling pretty good about my completion of 8 days of exercise, so I decided to put it into my page.  I choose light and happy colors since I felt so good.  The challenge required it be about how I felt and have at least two word arts.

I picked a different girl for this than one of the usual ones available in the M3 kits.

BTW, I'm 9 days and counting, now.

This challenge was to use a camera or a point and shoot camera.  I think the heart of the challenge was to not do a lot of post editing.  I used good lighting with my iPhone for some photos of my BSF materials.  I used one of the new kits I bought at TLP sale.

MOC Day 19 - Freestyle (clustered) Challenge

This challenge called for an artsy, clustered layout covering at least 40% of the page,.  There were a few other requirements: patterned background paper, at least one button, one doodle, one alpha, some stitching and at least one cluster.  I fullfilled it all plus more.

I had purchased a lot of new CD Muckosky kits during the week-end 8th birthday sale at TLP and this challenge was a great time to use them.  I used a black and white stylet in RadLab with 3 additional stylets on the photo.

Practice, practice, practice...

Practiced more ways to warp the string using PSE.  I used Image>transform> skew> distort....
I also practiced a new way to get a shadow on its own layer.

XOXO

I got excited by MOC Day 15, so I practiced with more PSE techniques for warping a string: transform, skew, distort, etc.  FUN, fun, fun....

Pink Reptile Designs | Love the Life You Live

MOC 15 - Puppet Warp Challenge

The Polly who designed this challenge did not understand the limitations of PSE.  PSE users do not have the Puppet Warp tool or the blending options she used in her tutorial.  In lieu of those tools we were to use layer masks.  I did manipulate the string shadow under the letter "V" and at the staples with the Smudge tool on a shadow I put on its own layer.  I used layer masks to weave the string through the title.  I also used layer masks on some of the stickers and the leaf on the bottom flower.

I used RadLab to turn my photo into a black and white.  I then used a color copy and the black and white version to get the finished photo.  The color copy has the Hard Mix blending mode and the b/w has the blending mode, Luminosity.  I think it gives it an artsy look.

Since PSE does not have the puppet warp tool for the blending options, I used the Smudge tool to manipulate the string shadow and layer masks to weave the string through the title.

MOC Day 14 - Quickpage Embellishment Challenge

I'm getting this one done early because the challenge was posted pretty early in the evening.  It was a challenge to take a fairly plain quickpage and embellish it.  The colors were right up my alley.  I had a kit by the quickpage designer so it worked out well.  I decided to use Rachel as I don't have too many layouts featuring her.

MOC Day 13 - Scraplift of CT Gallery

I found a great layout of a technique I've wanted to use for a LONG time.  It's called the Paper Portrait Collage.  Olga Biddiscombe / Zinzilah taught a tutorial on the technique.

I couldn't master the technique because in the end I didn't want the flat sectional look on the photo.
I did work it on 80% of the face.  The rest of the photo is using Poster Edges filter.  I used the Gradient Tool to blend out the right edge.  I put the opacity lower so the crumpled paper would show through.

I still like how it turned out.

MOC Day 12 Challenge - Detailed Template

This was a really busy day, so I didn't get to work on this layout until 10:00 pm.  I finished it up at 12:30 am.  I was determined to work on it the day it was posted.

I haven't done a predominately CD Muckosky layout since MOC started so I used the template with her designs.  It got changed up a bit because her things are so painterly.

I used Ewan's photos because I've been a little light on his layouts.  I should have used an orange background because he loves orange so much but the paper behind the cutouts did show up well with orange.  It actually looks like it has a lot of white space because there is so much blue.

Helping out a TLP scrapper....

One of the scrapper's called for some help with the Imperfect Photo challenge.  She had a photo with some extra people and she wanted ideas or help with how to "fix it up".  I used a whole bunch of techniques I saw in a Youtube video.  It took a couple of hours, but I was pretty pleased with the outcome.

On a roll...

I picked up a kit for the weekly challenge titled Polly's Picks.  I had two of her choices already and had to get a third to do the challenge.  I picked up Quirky Hearts "Love and Light".  It is such a great kit; I've used it on three layouts already.  I decided to do a layout with my own photo since there was a girl on the page and I have already done several LO with Vivi.  I used quite a few stylets from RadLab on the photo.

I also got the news that I got the $5 coupon for the last Polly Pick, yippee!!

MOC Day 6 - "All About..." Challenge

This challenge involved journaling and a lot of it.  We were to elaborate on a photo with journaling.  I decided to tell the story about the plan to surprise Vivian with a new puppy on Christmas morning.

So the layout is All About Walter.  It took nearly the whole day to put together.  It has a lot of journaling.  I wanted to do a semi military, mission impossible type theme and still keep it Christmasy.  So I went with that on the titles but used the timeline to keep it kind of Christmasy.

MOC Day 5 - Photo Treatment Challenge

I viewed a tutorial months ago on the Dispersion technique using the liquify filter.  I had to hunt for the tutorial again; found it and put it into use for this challenge.

I looked high and low for an action photo of Ewan to use the technique on.  I had to do some adjusting of the technique to keep the scenery background.  It's not perfect, but for a first effort it is EXCELLENT!

MOC Day 4 - Clean and Simple Challenge

This is not my usual style, but I like how it turned out.  I especially like the title straddling the photo.  I think it adds a fun twist to the simple design.  I blended a patterned paper over the folded, textured paper.  I also used RadLab on the photo: lighten and one other.  I also figured out that I could make a selection on the inside of the empty frame and turn it into a photo mask.  That was quite a revelation for me.  It took me a few tries to perfect it, though.
