I watched a tutorial about adding Anna's textures to layouts.  I got some really good tips on how to do it effectively and wanted to try it for myself.  The coloring had a masculine feel so I went with one of my few photos of Chris.

This digi dare made me think immediately of the newspaper article about my part in the Carmichael Junior High play.  I had to scan the article (took me three tries).  I used a kit that I've had for years and hadn't used yet.

I read the clipping again, then scrapped it.  When I read the clipping again online I finally noticed that they spelled my last name wrong in the article.  I probably noticed it years ago, but had forgotten.

CT Call by Sahlin Studio

Since I stepped down at Scrap Stacks as a CT, I decided to go for another CT at The Lilypad.  I really like Krista Sahlin's designs.  She loves bright colors or soft, sweet ones.  I don't have a lot of her stuff because of budget limitations but the kits I have, I love!  Fingers crossed that I'll be selected.

I have purchased so many kits from Anna Aspnes, I decided to start using them by doing her forum challenges.  I love her CT, they give so many encouraging comments.  I did two color challenges and one Anna Lift.  I also got on the ball and made an avatar and signature.  I've made some comments and introduced my self in the Hello forum thread.

First color challenge was a blue palette.

Layout 3 is a Anna Lift.  I was inspired by the thin, stitched frame, the sepia-toned photo and the texture behind the photo.  I've used this photo before, but I love it so much I used it again.  I used the color photo above the sepia toned photo and used a blending mode.  I used layer masks on both photo layers to erase the background from each photo.  The orange T-shirt peeked out from the blending modes.

Weird Happenings

Chrome doesn't seem to be working right now.  I am having to use Internet Explorer which I'm not as familiar with anymore and I don't like!  At least I can post layouts and upload layouts.

On another note, Scrap Stacks is closing its shop on June 30th and will only have the gallery, blog and forum.  Penny asked the CT to let her know if they will be continuing on.  Since she doesn't need such a large CT, I chose to step down.

This will allow me to focus more fully on my three Lilypad Designers: Kim Jensen, Amy Wolff, and Gina Miller.

June M3 3 Words Challenge

I used all three words in my layout.  I layered 4 papers to get the background.

The first layer was the blue striped paper, the second paper was a floral paper that was at 74% opacity, a layer mask on the flowered paper, the water-colored paper by Sissy Sparrows had a layer mask with a saturation blending mode.

For the second challenge, the "agent" were divided into two teams.  I made it onto Team A.  My team was to come up with a name and a color palette.  We were to design a layout with cut-out paper pieces which also included a family portrait.

Rosa (gybogi) suggested a color palette right off and a name.  The rest of the team agreed pretty quickly with a few additions to the color palette.  Someone suggested we have a team Siggy.  A first one was designed by redplaid3.  She invited others to expand or improve on it.  I lifted her siggy and came up with one the team liked after a LOT of dsicussion and suggestions.

After I made the Siggys for everyone, I went to work on my layout.  I got the title first, as I was falling asleep the night before:  My heart lives in 3 houses.

I sketched out the houses on paper, made some rectangular masks for the shapes.  Once I found the papers that fit the color palette, I went to work filling the masks.  I used the pencil tool to draw outlines and shapes (which I turned into masks).  After the houses were finished, I grabbed elements from M3 kits and alphas for the embellishments and title.

The last thing I did was extract each family from photos and added them to the layout.  It took me hours and hours but I LOVE how it turned out.

Zen Doll

I have gotten started working in my art journal.  I started my first doll while watching Vivi.  She wanted to help me with it.  I said no at first, but relented and my heart skipped a beat when she started coloring the face gray and the nose brown.  She colored the eyes and lips cutely.  She later added more colors around the lips and eye lashes to the eyes.  I put more doodles around her work.  The longer I looked at it, the MORE I LIKED IT!!

SOSN - Kim Jensen's Cord Crazy Shapes, Lines and Alpha

Today Kim's Cord Crazy kits are 50% at The Lilypad.  It was fun finding ways to incorporate all three kits into the layout.  I love the stapled cord letter over the font letter.  I used a layer mask to makes the cord look like it was threaded through the torn cardboard heart.

This is one of my favorite photos of Vivi and I have it on a flash drive, but I snagged this off Lexie's facebook page.  I used 2 additional photo processings on the other versions of the photo.

Anna Aspnes Color Challenge

I got so many encouraging comments on my last entry to AA's Color Challenge, I thought I would give it another try.  I was really taken with the Color Card for the challenge and used the photo as a texture in my layout.  I've used this photo before but I really RadLabed the heck out of it to get a grayer/whiter look to it for the color palette needed for the challenge.  The title/quote just came as I was finishing up.  I was going to use a watercolor font, but the old typewriter look suited it just fine.

Guest Designer - Scrapyrus Designs

One of my favorite designers is at Scrap Stacks this month -- Scrapyrus Designs.  Her kits are always FULL of gorgeous flowers, buttons and other interesting elements.  Her color palettes always speak to my heart, too.  It happens that she has put into the shop a kit I've had for a long time and have actually scrapped with.  She even featured that layout on her blog once.  I didn't have some of the add-on kits so I downloaded and made a layout featuring them as well.  I didn't get her journaling cards since I rarely use them.

I have three layouts for the BYOC for June.  First up is one for Kim Jensen.  I wanted to showcase the small yarn bits, so I used a Clean & Simple (C&S) template from Amy Martin.  Love the filters on the photo because the green came out chartreuse, matching the string flower and paper border.

Second up is a layout for Gina Miller.  I loved the blue floral paper in her paper kit and built the layout around that.  I wasn't sure the template would work but in the end I thought it was great.  I raised the photo sections.  Gina didn't have any elements this time, so I got a kit from Paislee Press.  I love the green flower in it and that's what sold me on her kit.

First Layout as CT for Kim Jensen

It is SOSN at The Lilypad and I got to download 2 kits from Kim Jensen.  I found out today that she accepted me on her CT.  I'm thrilled.  There are a couple of ladies also on it I feel like I'm getting to know.

I took the same photo and had each frame focus on a single face.  I've used these shots on numerous layouts.  They are just too cute!

Love the red, white and blue colors of this new kit.  I wanted to use just the brown and red mainly for this layout.  It's pretty feminine in tone but the sentiment works because it's about a special love.
