A layout using a new kit....

I loved the colors in this kit, My Manly Man.  I thought I could use it for  some of the guy layouts.  I used a new template kit, too by Two Tiny Turtles.  I REALLY admire the layouts Louso does with her templates, so I tried my hand at it.  I'm not as skilled as she is.  Since the new kit is from Quirky Heart, it has a bit of an Art Journaling feel to it.

BSF Layout - Chapter 16

The lesson this week was on chapters 15 -19, but I focused on chapter 16.  There was a lot worth journaling, but all of it together was just too much for one page.  I got the vision in my head of the title following the swallowing of Korah and his followers but wasn't sure I could put it down on paper.  I think with the help of some swirly stamps acting as masks I got close.  The stamped 3 times alpha was just perfect.  I decided to just let the scriptures stand without any extras in or on it.  The last line talks about God's fire devouring the others in the rebellion because of their unauthorized fire before the Lord so that is why I added the fire coming from Heaven.  I think it turned out great.

The Korahite Rebellion - Numbers 16
The BSF lesson covered chapters 15-19, but I focused on Chapter 16.  I hope the title makes you think of the earth opening up and swallowing Korah & his followers.

Last week of the Pocket Scrapping AJ Challenges for February....

The challenges will go on next month too, but the coupon will be for a different shop.  I'll get $3 to use in Amy Wolff's shop this time which is great since I like her stuff.

This challenge was to keep it 'clean and simple'.  Since I'm using a set of templates with LOTS of small spaces I used the same background paper in a majority of the spaces to give "white space". Except for the top pocket, I kept the elements to a minimum with just some recurring word art as the theme of the page.

I just bought the Allison Pennington kit today; it was on sale for 50% off.  I actually bought it for the alphas and didn't use them after all.  Love the title word art and that eyelet strip. I would have loved to use more of the elements from the kit but it wouldn't work for this challenge -- clean and simple, you know....

I tried to give more white space than usual with minimal elements in the main part.

BSF Lesson -- Numbers 13, 14

I'm a little late this week.  I got the idea for the layout a couple of days ago, but just didn't get to putting it on "paper".  I ended up with tons of Scripture on the layout.  I tried emphasizing key words. I used colors to show the dialogue between the bad report and Caleb's report.

The BSF lesson last week covered the well-known account of the 12 spies.

Slow Scrap at TLP

I really like the slow scrap, you have a day to put it together.  I generally miss the speed one.  This one needed a "serious" border.  I really went to town putting all the elements I could around the border.  It also needed two photos.  I like how it turned out.  I think b/w photo would have been better but I wanted to record the color, so....

Another designer's blog challenge...

This challenge is from Pink Reptile Designs.  It came with a discount coupon for frames since the challenge required a new use of a frame.  I picked up a kit called Fold 'Em and another Torn Treasures (torn frames) kit.

The torn pile of frames are scene from the yard in winter.  They are piled as if the season is discarded. The fuller frame is a picture of one of the Camellia flowers from the yard in early Spring, the season of promise.  I got the idea in bed several nights ago.

M3 February Challenge #1

The new subscription kit for the Monthly Mixed Media is out today.  The challenge was to use the word Find, Bright or Passion as the inspiration.  I chose Passion.  I did a bit of recoloring and used the selection tool to change the inside color into a mask for some textured paper on the word art passion.

Polly Pick Challenge [Melanie B]

This was one of the few times I had a bunch of the Polly's picks.  The challenge for me was to put the 4 kits I had together since they are VERY different in style and would not normally be put together.  I think I did a pretty good job making them look like a cohesive collection.

Designer Blog Challenge

Forever Joy from The Lilypad has a monthly challenge on her blog.  She awards a $10 gift certificate randomly to one entrant.  I've not done the challenge before.  I recently bought one of her kits specifically for a photo of Vivi on the telephone playing Vivian's Pet Boutique.  We had so much fun that day.  It worked perfectly for the challenge.  Hope I win the 10 bucks as I don't have much of Forever Joy's stuff.

I'm particularly proud of the shadow on the frame (warped) and the string.  I made the paperclip look like it was tucked under the paper and strip with a layer mask and eraser tool.  I used the dodge and burn tool on the speech bubble at the edges of the frame to look like it was changing levels.

Hello Hello - Vivian

I created this layout for the February Challenge at Forever Joy\'s blog.  It shows something that fills me with joy -- playing with my granddaughter.  I bought the kit I used specifically for this photo.

3rd Pocket Scrapping AJ challenge layout....

I used the kit from a new designer at TLP.  Sissy Sparrows does a lot of Art Journaling kits.  They also design for the Monthly Mixed Media kits.  I am using a series of templates from Amy Martin for all of these challenges.  The dimensions are half the size of my usual layouts.  It's a challenge to fit things into the small spaces but I'm enjoying it.

Next installment of BSF lesson

Numbers: Chapters 11 & 12.

I got the idea for this Bible Art Journal page days ago and finally got around to getting it done.  It works very well for the AJ challenge at TLP right now, too.  I think I did a pretty good job depicting the millions of Israelites in the desert.  I had to cut up a barbeque and a rocket ship to get the flames.

2nd Pocket Scrapping AJ Challenge

The challenge is to use pocket type layouts with an art journaling technique with at least one heart in a pocket.  This is a newer size and style for me.  There is a gift certificate available for just doing two in a month.  This is my second one so I definitely get the certificate.

Last February Challenge for TLP

I got an idea for the last challenge from a photo I saw on Pinterest.  It was where a photo was changed out for a sky scene.  The challenge was a One Word challenge.  The word was "BE".  I used my shadow but changed it out with lots of word art that had something to do with me.  The overlay had the word BE and I changed the color of one to emphasize it for the challenge.

Featured Favorites #3

I was drawn to another pack of In Bloom papers.  There is a lot of gray in it so I went with a b/w photo of Rachel.  It's a Christmas time photo even though the layout is pretty timeless.

There were some old releases put on sale.  There were a couple I didn't have yet, so I did a layout with some new items for me.  I liked a lot of the new papers and looked for a template that would use a lot of paper.  I turned the journaling strips into paper strips on my layout.

Challenge #6 - Random (Formula) Challenge

The formula for this challenge was to use an item beginning with each letter in the word Valentine.  I wanted to use some of the items in my newest kits.  I started with an vintage postcard and that set the theme right away.  I had all the old, antique items in when I decided to add a really worn looking frame.  I thought of mom looking at all the vintage items and used one of my last photos of her.  I used RadLab to give it a sepia/antique look.  It also needed to be sharpened as it was fairly blurry.

Here is my take on the formula:  V - Vintage postcard
                                                     A - Letter A
                                                     L - Lace
                                                     E - Ephemera (antique envelope)
                                                     N - Newspaper overlay/mask
                                                     T - Tag
                                                     I - Iridescent flowers
                                                     N - Navy hangtag
                                                     E - Epoxy honeycomb

M3 January Challenge #2

This challenge was to make stamps and brushes look realistic.  I use a combination of techniques for that.  Sometimes blending modes, opacity, clipping masks, and/or the eraser tool with layer masks.

I used a lot of blending modes on this layout, layer masks/eraser tool and clipping masks with multiple layers.

Pixels & Co. Subscription kit for February 2015

I've been dying to use a Two Tiny Turtles template which uses a BUNCH of elements.  The February P&C kit is perfect because it is loaded with elements.  It has a very valentines feels to it.
I used something from every designer.  I have 4 stylets on the photo and I blended the b/w photo with a straight out of the camera color photo.

TLP February Template Challenge

One Little Bird furnished the free template for the challenge.  I went with an arty layout.  The title "free as a bird" works on a couple of levels.  The photo shows Ewan spreading his arms like he's flying and he was free from school as it had just let out for the summer only a few days earlier.

February Product Challenge at TLP

I made the layout as a Bible Art Journal page on my BSF lesson last week: Numbers Chapters 1-10.  Turned out that I used a painted element in it as well as some painted stamped circles and a font that gave it the look of a painted, stamped title.  So I could use it in the product (paint) challenge.  Neat!

A new kind of challenge at TLP.

There is a new challenge called the Pocket Scrapping Art Journaling Challenges.  There is a gift certificate for doing 2 of the challenges during the month.  That's real money, so I thought I would give it a try.  I won't print them out in paper, but I will add them to my Pinterest board and this blog.
This one is support to have journaling about something good.  I picked family.

New month, new challenges at The Lilypad

It is back to normal, doing the monthly challenges at The Lilypad.  My guest spot at the Pad is next month and I'm in waiting mode to see if I got the permanent Pollywog job due to MOC.  I looked through the layouts and there is STIFF competition for sure.

First challenge I completed was for the Scraplift Challenge.  Christina's gallery had a lot of great choices.  I was particularly drawn to the photo treatments in this layout by her.  The ruffled laces also attracted me.

To lift her layout, I needed a panoramic shot with a close up of a subject.  Hmmm, that was hard to find in my collection of photos.  I found two photos at the duck pond I figured would work, but there would be no ruffles (used a flat, crocheted lace instead) with it.  Bummer.  Here is my take on her layout:
