Scraplift

I have wanted to scraplift a layout by Amy Martin for the longest time and I've wanted to use her style over at P&C.  The new designer, Meredith Cardall, has an alphabet that I thought would be perfect for the scraplift so I decided to go for it.  The original layout had one large photo, but I needed three.  I think the adjustments still keep the flavor of the original.  I hand made the journaling box.
The photo were taken on my new iPhone 6 and Rachel posted them on her Facebook page.

M3 at TLP -- Challenge #1

The first challenge of the month is to use one of the theme words.  I let the kit pick my word - Magic.
The word art was the deciding factor.

Recipe Challenge

I used the subscription kit to make my layout for the December Recipe Challenge.  I wanted to use colors that would not scream Christmas to show the versatility of the kit.

First LO with the new subscription kit...

I loved the bah humbug paper in this kit, so I wanted a not so serious photo to scrap.  I've taken some great photos of Buddy by the tree each year but never get them scrapped.  The bohken lights are so fabulous in this photo.  I think I LOVE IT!

P & C Relaunch

Today has been an uplifting day after the drama of the last few weeks.  Gennifer has brought in two new designers and a WHOLE bunch of new kits.  I am excited to work with the new designs.  One of the designers was in the shop a few months ago.  Gen is also going to start a subscription service which is similar to what I'm doing at TLP.  I put in an application to CT at The Digital Press but my heart just isn't in it.  I doubt they'll contact me anyway.  I've decided to stay at P & C if they'll keep me.
In the meantime, Deena Rutter released a new kit and I LOVED the yellow paper in the kit so a layout was just crying out to be made.  I started with photos of Buddy in the snow, but the flowers in the kit just didn't seem right.  I opted for photos of Ewan which I thought looked good with the adjustments I made in RadLab.  I did something new there, I saved the first recipe to use on the second photo. Check it out...

Inspiration to try something new...

Hummie from Hummie's World posted a thread about Bible Art Journaling that got me thinking about how I could document my study in Exodus at BSF.  I started a new board in Pinterest and did a little research about Bible Art Journaling.  This is my offering about the lecture.  I didn't study the passage or do the questions because I was attending the Welcome Class.  I will be doing the entire lesson this week, however.

Just for fun....

I've been lurking about on Pinterest lately and decided to try lifting a design I really liked.  I had to use so many different kits because the layout was a traditional paper layout with inked edges to many of the elements.  It was pretty hard for me to duplicate but I think I did okay.  I really like my version of it no matter.  Once again I used RadLab to tweak the photo.  LOVE this photo!

Last one for P&C this November

Whew!  I got them all done!  It is actually the first time I've done all the challenges in a month there.  It was hard to get the colors and use current supplies because most of the designers that used the colors have gone and I couldn't use their stuff.  I had to break down and use one flower since I couldn't get the recoloring to work on a flower that was currently in the shop (that I have).

Feeling bad about P&C Challenges

I have been feeling guilty that I do a minimum of 11 challenges a month at TLP and very FEW at Pixels & Co.  So I got busy today and did two.  A recipe challenge and a journaling challenge.  I got all the elements needed for the recipe.  The journaling needed to be about a celebration with the word celebrate on the layout.  Mine doesn't look very festive, but I like it just as it is.

First up is the journaling challenge:

Deena Rutter | Out & About
Gennifer Bursett | Dialogue
Wishing Well Creations | P&C collab - Dream
Fonts | Jasmine Reminiscentse, VTPortable Remington, KG What Teacher Wants

This photo of Rachel was nearly black it was so dark.  I used RadLab to lighten it but it got a little grainy in the process but I think it looks pretty good.  The recipe called for two kinds of ribbon, a one word title, a cut out, a triangle shape of some type, and a splatter or scatter of some type.  Got it all!

Last M3 Challenge for October

Challenge #4 for October (I know it's November, but the new kits don't release until the third Friday so the challenges lag behind) is about the theme together.  Since it's an art journaling layout I don't like to do people photos.  I got a little artsy in that I put the color photo in a mask and I did a sketch of the front door.  I need to get some better photos of the front of the house for these kinds of layouts.

I explained the theme by saying:

Here is my challenge about Together. My house is an empty nest until one of the kids stops by and then it feels more like home because we are together.

Last November Challenge at the Lilypad

I finally got the 7th layout completed for November at TLP.  This will put me in the running for a guest spot on the CT.  I would just love a chance to be on it.  I figured out days ago what I would do, it was just a matter of finding a kit and time.  I LOVE how it turned out.

Another layout for P&C.

I worked on this layout for DAYS trying to use a watercolor effect on a photo.  The first photo I used just wasn't good for a partial sketch in b/w with part in color.  I changed the photo and that one did not go well with the kit/elements I wanted to use.  I pared down the photo into a small inset.  If you look closely the color has a lot of textures with a sketchy look within the color.  I blended the photo again into the background paper.

Sad, sad turn of events....

Things have really changed at Pixels & Co.  Most of the designers evidently have been dissatisfied with the shop arrangement and were planning on leaving the site to start their own shop. Gennifer caught wind of it and decided to stop their association with P&C immediately.  Both sides feel the other acted badly.  The customers are reeling with the news and frankly, so are all the CT members.  I have felt wierd for the last two days.  I am so grateful to P&C for inviting me to be a CT but it's the designers who left that are the ones I like the best (their stuff, as I really don't know any of them personally).

I've decided that I'll stay with P&C during the transition period and maybe even longer.  I put out some feelers to the new shop the designers are starting but don't know if I would go with them even if they are open to me being on their CT.  I am still hoping to get a guest shot at The Lilypad.

But to keep some activity going at P&C I put together a layout with mostly Gennifer's kits. Since only P&C items can be used and their are only 5 designers, it is a little harder.
This looks awfully like a Valentine's layout but it wasn't intended that way.  I just loved the grey flower.

TLP Polly Picks

The Lilypad does a thing every couple of weeks where they chose a creative team member and have them choose some kits that they use when they scrap.  The "Polly" this time has been leaving me lots of great comments on my layouts so I thought I would check her out.  She happened to choose many kits I already own, so I did her challenge to use at least 3 of her kits in a layout.

#6

I made this layout a week or so ago in anticipation of a Mixed Media Monthly challenge.  With the change of one word, I was able to make it work for a November challenge, the journaling challenge. This challenge was one where I was to talk about what I need in my day to day life.  Since I eat some chocolate virtually every day, I thought this would be appropriate.

Challenge #5

I bought a kit by Lynne-Marie specifically for the product challenge.  The challenge is to use frames. Jenn McCabe did a layout with the same kit, but she used one of the torn frames as a mask for woodgrain paper.  I thought that was a great idea.  So I selected an old photo of my spent roses and a tattered frame and used the woodgrain paper idea.  I really like the look of it.

Scraplift Challenge at the Lilypad

I picked a large photo layout to lift because I'm a sucker for the over-sized photos.  This one of Vivian is so sweet.  The challenge was how to blend that really dark background in such a way that I wouldn't have to do an extraction.  I just didn't want to risk harsh outlines.  So I just did a color fill with the background of the photo.  It's pretty good. I recolored the black parts of the word art while.

TLP Challenge #3 - One Word

Journey is the word for the challenge.  I caught a photo of Brian walking with Greg so I thought a journey up the path would work.  It is rare to get photos of Brian so it was a natural.

TLP Challenge #2 -- The Template Challenge

As I looked through the forum thread, I noticed most of the layouts were pretty, light-hearted or fallish in theme.  Since I had won a $10 gift certificate in the M3 Monochromatic Challenge from Little Butterfly Wings' shop I wanted to use one of the kits I got with it for this layout.  The kit, Grungy & Messy, lent itself to a darker, grungier layout.  I think it still works AND it's really different from all the others in the challenge gallery.

November Challenges at TLP

Here is a layout for the BYOC (Build Your Own Collab) Challenge.  This challenge requires using three designers' stuff on the layout.  Many of the designers break up their kits between elements and papers which means you have to spend twice as much to get one full kit.  That is two purchases, but still only one designer for the challenge.  Since I am determined to use the CD Muckosky stuff I bought during DSD I looked for things that compliment CD's style and were not too expensive since I spent quite a bit during DSD.  I opted for stitching, stitched hexagons and some doodled borders.  I played around with the background papers quite a bit; there are a couple papers and some recolored layers.  The photo maybe should have been bigger since it's a bit hard to tell that we have stuffed animals on our heads.

Did two layouts for one challenge.

I did a busy, gloomy layout first but it just didn't feel right.  So I put together a second in half the time.  It is for what I like about Autumn at TLP.  It's the 3rd October M3 challenge.

A quick layout for Shannon

There is another designer releasing a template on the 7th.  I didn't see anyone else signed up for it so I did a quick layout.  Lately so many have been about Vivi, so I did this one about Ewan.

Blending galore!

I wanted to do some blending  and a sketch on this layout.  I didn't intend to do a straight extraction but the sketch plan didn't pan out because there was so much "junk" in the background.  It was all the plastic toys from when Vivi lived with us this summer. It wasn't what I intended but I think it turned out well.

DSD Sales -- CD Muckosky

This week-end is officially DSD everywhere, so I used it as an opportunity to shop at TLP.  Since CD Muckosky rarely runs sales, I decided to stock up with the 30% off discount.  I bought 13 of her kits on Friday. This morning I checked TLP blog and found a link to CD's facebook page and saw that she was offering a coupon of an extra 25% off for today only.  Drats, I wish I had known she would be doing that yesterday.  Well, since it was SUCH a great deal I shopped again today and bought another 8 kits.  So I felt compelled to begin using them.  I also started a Pinterest board of layouts others have make using her supplies.  I used a boatload of them on this layout. Here what I did today.

November Template Challenge

I used a new release from my assigned designer to participate in the P&C Template Challenge.
The template had places for lots of strips of paper, but the kit didn't really lend itself to a lot of patterns without looking too busy.  So I went the dark, subdued route and let the photo shine.  I also cut off part of the strips so more background paper could show.
